I coached girls’ Rep soccer. I asked our teenager athletes:
“Who is your favourite female role model on the pitch?”
- 1/3 named one, most taking some time to do so.
- 1/3 named a male athlete in soccer.
- 1/3 did not have one.
It motivated me to try and affect change.
We introduced a mentoring culture.
We endeavoured to prepare our girls for the game of life.

”I have a special place in my heart for female athletes and competitive sports. For close to a decade, as a certified Head Coach, I was dedicated to mentoring young girls on the pitch while doing my best to positively impact their lives beyond it. As were my assistant coaches - female NCAA D1 student-athletes, fabulous role models for our young impressionable girls. We emphasised, "Best efforts on the pitch and everything you do beyond it.".
As the Business Manager, with the support of some fabulous parents/volunteers, we raised significant funds for our dream road trip tournaments to Chicago, New York City, and Halifax, all expenses paid. But the girls greatest achievements were in giving back to our community, helping those less fortunate than us. Life lessons they will caary with them forever.
Today, to see the advances in women's sports, is simply amazing, yet there is more work to do. Through Womentum Sports, I hope to play a small part in leveling the playing field and optimizing the multidimensional potential of our world-class female clients. Coach Joe
